Who runs ELIDE
ELIDE is run by [OPERATOR NAME AND ADDRESS, TO BE COMPLETED]. Contact for privacy requests: [PRIVACY CONTACT, TO BE COMPLETED].
What we collect
ELIDE has no accounts and asks for no email address. Each poem you publish stores the redacted text, and optionally a title and a name you choose. Anything you type there is public. Please don't put personal details in a title or name.
To limit how often a visitor can make requests, we use a hash of your IP address. The hash uses a salt that changes every day, so it can't be used to identify you across days.
Cookies
- elide_age: records whether you said you are 18 or over, or that a parent or guardian agreed. It lets us show or hide adult poems. It expires after 30 days.
- elide_consent: records whether you accepted ads. It expires after a year.
- Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may set its own technical cookies to keep the site running.
- Google sets advertising cookies only if you accept ads. Affiliate sites set their own cookies if you follow a link to them.
Ads
If you accept ads, the home and inspiration pages may show Google AdSense ads. These are non-personalised: they are not chosen using your browsing history or interests. Visitors who say they are under 18 see no ads. Ads never appear on poem pages, PDFs, or adult poems.
Links to booksellers
“Find the book” links go to Bookshop.org and Amazon. These may earn ELIDE a commission at no cost to you. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Children
ELIDE is for everyone, but adult poems are behind a confirmation. Under-18s can read them only with a parent or guardian's agreement, and no ads are shown to under-18s. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us a name or title, contact us and we will remove it.
Who we share with
Cloudflare hosts the site. Google provides ads, only if you accept them. Project Gutenberg is the source of public-domain texts, and we don't send it any personal information.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to remove a poem you published (give us its share code), or complain to your local data protection regulator. Because poems are public, removal is the main tool available.
Changes
We will update this page if how ELIDE works changes.
